Luis Ajamil is President and CEO of Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc., an award-winning international multidisciplinary design firm. Under his leadership, B&A has expanded its worldwide presence to become one of the preeminent firms in its field. A consummate visionary who believes in providing service on a global scale, Mr. Ajamil strategically expanded operations to include B&A offices across the United States from Florida to California and abroad in Dubai – embracing the opportunity to serve that burgeoning market. Mr. Ajamil is a Planner and a Professional Engineer with an impressive portfolio of innovative master planning projects for waterfront projects. Long recognized as a national and international expert in the Maritime field, Mr. Ajamil has served as keynote speaker and panelist at many conferences all around the world.
Ms. Garcia has over 26 years of experience in accounting for A/E firms. As Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Partner of Bermello, Ajamil & Partners, Inc. (B&A), her responsibilities include directing all overall financial plans and accounting practices for the Firm and overseeing treasury, accounting, budget, tax and audit activities for all B&A offices in the U.S. and overseas. Ms. Garcia is also responsible for overseeing financial and accounting system management controls and standards and ensuring timely financial and statistical reports for the Board of Directors.
Tere Garcia has more than 25 years experience in the fields of planning, public participation, governmental and media relations. Eighteen of those years have been spent specifically in the public involvement field concentrating on transportation and infrastructure projects. B&A has provided public involvement services to governmental agencies such as the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX), the Florida Department of Transportation, Miami-Dade Transit Agency and Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department.
Mark Ittel is a Partner with Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. and Sr. Vice President of Ports & Maritime. He also sits on the firm’s Board of Directors. He has more than 17 years of experience working with ports and destinations worldwide in his current role. He also brings extensive destination planning and project management experience from his tenure with Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises. He is a proven problem solver with a clear understanding of balancing the scope of a project with the need to provide a realistic, measurable solution for the client. His balance of skills and experience brings a significant level of value to any project of which he is associated with an emphasis on cruise market assessment, cruise tourism destination review and planning, cruise facility master planning and destination advocacy.
Rai Fernandez, practicing since 1983 with experience in managing, coordinating, designing and master planning a variety of projects. His work includes numerous award-winning projects: New York City Cruise Terminal – Brooklyn Pier 12, American Airlines Admirals Clubs at Miami International, Mexico City International Airports, Four Seasons Hotel Tower in Downtown Miami and 1800 Club in the Miami-Omni District. Other notable projects include the world-class Homestead Motorsports Complex in Miami, Florida, Warren Cromartie Baseball School, a master plan for 20 parks in the City of Miami Beach and Univision Network Offices and Television Studio.
In professional practice for over 44 years, Mr. Horovitz has developed specialized expertise in architecture and planning for institutional facilities. Mr. Horovitz is an expert in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, is responsible for the firm’s ADA program and has lectured on the subject and prepared ADA survey for Lee County Healthcare System, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and Broward County Schools. He is Principal in Charge for the firm’s General Consultant contract with the University of Miami, Baptist Health South Florida, Broward Health and Memorial Healthcare Systems.
Luis de Carvalho is the CEO of Bermello Ajamil & Partners Europe. He is an experienced Port and Destination Development Planner and Project Manager with an extensive career in the cruise and travel industry spanning over 32 years and including positions with Premier Cruise Line, RCCL, Hilton Hotels, Crystal Cruises, TUI AG, Tumlare, Kuoni DMC and Consult DC.
His long work experience with cruise lines, international tour operators and ports and destinations all over the world allows him to understand the logistics and requirements involved in the delivery of a successful cruise port and destination.
Expertise includes delivering cruise market assessment, cruise tourism destination review and planning, port and cruise facility master planning, itinerary planning and cruise business strategies. He is an expert in planning, organization and team building being able to understand a project and bring it from the drawing board to full execution in the most effective, cost-efficient and timely manner.
Notable projects: India National Cruise Development Plan, Balearic islands Strategic Cruise Development Plan, Dublin Port Cruise Facilities Master Plan; Cape Verde Destination Development; Canary Islands Strategic Cruise Tourism Plan; Charlottetown PEI Cruise Development Plan; Tarragona Cruise Development Plan, Mauritius Cruise Terminal, and others.
Agustin Barrera is a Partner, Vice President, and Director of Architecture for Florida, Latin America and the Caribbean. Mr. Barrera, who has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the architecture industry, is highly client-focused and prides himself on his reputation of exceeding client expectations, while continuously providing creative solutions for a range of complex design challenges. With over three decades of experience in all facets of architectural design, construction administration and project management, he has a wealth of knowledge of the entire design process and ensures proper resources and outstanding client support. As B&A’s Director of Architecture, Mr. Barrera will develop client relationships and business opportunities for the firm, as well as collaborate closely with B&A teams to deliver the next generation of projects while using the firm’s global expertise.
Randy Hollingworth is a senior associate with B&A and has more than 37 years’ experience as an urban and landscape designer. His specialty is the design and development of mixed use projects and their integration within the urban fabric. With a comprehensive understanding of the needs and requirements of various land uses, Mr. Hollingworth has prepared development plans for a wide range of project types. He has developed master plans and design guidelines for commercial and retail areas, office parks and residential communities in numerous waterfront locations throughout Florida. In addition to his extensive urban design and planning experience, Mr. Hollingworth has worked on a wide variety of landscape design oriented projects.
Scott Bakos has over 26 years of architectural experience with a variety of project types. His experience includes work on residential projects for public and private clients, commercial office, transportation, military facilities, and maritime/waterfront projects. Mr. Bakos has also been involved in several projects in the Middle East in Dubai and Kuwait. His responsibilities include developing close working relationships with clients and maintaining involvement with all disciplines of the project. Scott is also Managing Director of our Fort Lauderdale office, overseeing a staff comprised of architects, designers, administrative and support personnel.
Dr. Bonzon has over 30 years of experience in program and construction management of complex transit and aviation capital improvement programs including extensive experience in managing multidisciplinary A/E teams. Dr. Bonzon’s has expertise in Automated Peoplemover (APM) systems and rail transit systems. Dr. Bonzon retired from Miami-Dade County in 2006 as an Assistant County Manager. During his 35 year tenure with the County he also served as Miami International Airport (MIA) Director and as Deputy Aviation Director in charge of its multi-billion dollar Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
Mr. Ferrer has over 25 years of experience in architecture and interior architecture for a variety of clients, including government, commercial office, parks, and hospitality facilities. Mr. Ferrer’s primary responsibility is to ensure that all projects developed at B&A go through our rigorous document review and coordination process. He, along with his team of professionals, reviews all projects for completion, correctness, and compliance with established design criteria and governing codes.
Saul Suarez has over 40 years of architectural design and construction experience on a wide variety of multifaceted projects. He is particularly adept in the design of ports and major cruise line terminals, hospitality, residential and multi-use/commercial facilities and components; projects for which he successfully integrates various forms of transportation, terminal operations, concession spaces and a variety of other uses. He manages multi-disciplinary projects, teams and sub-consultants, supervising them from initial design phase through to documentation and construction administration.
Alfredo Sanchez is a Florida-registered architect and AICP-certified planner with more than 44 years of experience in architecture and urban planning and design. Mr. Sanchez has directed a number of major planning studies and urban design plans in the Miami area and throughout the world. His project experience encompasses city wide master plans, corridor plans, major reconstruction efforts, pedestrian improvements, urban, retail and mixed-use development projects, land planning projects including redevelopment and design of new communities, and seaport master plans. Apart from his extensive experience, Mr. Sanchez’s strength lies in his understanding of project methodology and approach. This solid foundation is complemented by his ability to understand all aspects of a project, from the initial economic feasibility analysis to the ultimate impact and image of the project architecture.
Steve Pynes is a Registered Architect with over 35 years of professional experience in the design, project management and construction administration for large, complex projects. This includes program development, master planning, client coordination, consultant engineering coordination, design, specifications, construction documents, permitting, bidding, services during construction, project punch lists and project close-out.
Mr. Carreras has over 30 years of experience in the field of architecture with specialization in program management, project team and consultant coordination, and production of construction documents. As a project manager, Mr. Carreras collaborates on a variety of public and private sector projects including government facilities, park and recreational complexes and hospitality/commercial properties.
Tony Hernandez has over 30 years of experience in Construction Management and the successful delivery of Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) Services for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) and Miami-Dade County (MDC). Mr. Hernandez also has extensive experience in Project Management, Quality Control (QC), and Materials Testing and Inspection Services.
James Rowe is a versatile architect with more than 20 years of project management, design and coordination experience, primarily in public sector work including production management, conceptual through construction design and detailing, code and constructability review, specification, construction administration and creative resolution of client requirements. Mr. Rowe is a respected designer and project manager with expertise in large-scale, complex infrastructure projects and a specialization in in-situ analysis and installation within existing structures.
Yoka Ikourou is a Partner and Senior Project Manager of Bermello Ajamil and Partners Healthcare and Education Divisions. In addition, Yoka is widely considered a specialist in high performance and BIM project delivery methods. In professional practice for 14 years, Mr. Ikourou has developed a specialized expertise in architecture and planning for variety of facilities; ranging from Healthcare, Education and Hospitality. Yoka has developed a proven track record for executing the design and construction of high performance facilities, all while representing the client’s interests of budget and schedule.
James Bowers has more than 19 years of architectural experience with a variety of projects. His experience includes maritime terminals and mixed-use residential, campus, corporate and transportation projects for public and private clients. He has been responsible for design, production and coordination of construction, design development and schematic design documents, review of shop drawings, construction management, code research and specification research.
Michael Vanderbeek, who has more than 12 years of experience in the ports and maritime industries, joins B&A from the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) in Boston, MA, where he served as Deputy Port Director for New England’s busiest seaport. In this position Vanderbeek played a leading role in growing Massport’s cruise and cargo volumes by more than 30 percent each, setting new records for both lines of business and increasing Massport’s annual maritime revenue by more than $10 million over three years. Vanderbeek also played a leading role in moving forward several of Massport’s strategic initiatives including the Flynn Cruiseport Boston and Conley Container Terminal master plans.
Previously, Vanderbeek was Director of Business Development at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the 10th busiest container port in the U.S. and third-busiest cruise port in the world. During his Port Everglades tenure, the Port became the busiest container port in Florida and saw record cruise passenger volumes of more than 4 million.
An American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA)-certified Professional Port Manager, Vanderbeek also holds professional affiliations with the Cruise Canada New England (CCNE) Alliance and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He has a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA.
Ms. Cohen-Mora has more than 33 years of experience in the architectural profession, specializing, during the last 25 years, in Interior Architecture and Interior Design. Her various roles have included project architect, project designer, senior designer, project manager, principal and design director and her experience covers all aspects of project management from project administration to design and construction. She has held a number of these positions with some of the top 100 Architectural and Interior Design firms in South Florida. Speaking three languages, Ms. Cohen-Mora has an understanding of the diversity of cultures and has allowed her to practice regionally and international. Her project experience encompasses corporate, banking, government, educational, retail, hospitality, residential, healthcare/medical and aviation. Her goal always is to deliver innovative, thoughtful design solutions that exceed client expectations.
Mr. Lopez has more than 33 years of experience in civil engineering, project and contract management; permitting, stormwater management, planning, and flood control; water supply; watershed management; operation and maintenance; and Everglades restoration. In the past he worked as a VP of Engineering in the design and manufacturing of wastewater treatment plants, at the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) as a lead project/water resources manager.
Janeen is the Director of Marketing and a Senior Associate Partner for Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. She is a talented, results-producing A/E/C marketing professional with over 20 years of experience and a proven record of accomplishment in planning, leading, and supporting comprehensive marketing strategies that support our business goals and objectives.
Liana is Director of Human Resources and an Associate for Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Inc. She has more than 30 years of experience working in the private sector, 12 of those years at B&A. In addition to talent acquisition, Liana spearheads all training and retention efforts for the firm, and oversees all personnel benefits, EEO, and continuing education programs.
